Magic: The Gathering M12 Pre-Release Coming to JHU Saturday, July 9!

The wait is over, Magic fans! Be at Jim Hanley’s Universe Saturday, July 9 for the much anticipated pre-release of the new Magic core set, M12, at both JHU locations! This is your chance to be the first to get a crack at M12, the brand new core set (before it is released to the general public!) at Jim Hanley's Universe in New York City!

FORMAT: Sealed (Get 6 booster packs of the M12 set and build a 40 card deck to use and play against opponents for 4 rounds.)
ENTRY FEE: $30
Each participant in the Main Event will receive a Bloodlord of Vaasgoth promo card while supplies last!

Seating for the main event is limited (see below). If you can't make the main event, don't worry! We will be doing many side events all day at both locations! The side events will be draft format at only $15!

Main Event: 2:00 - 6:30 PM
Side Events (limited availability): 2:30 - 7:30 PM
Side Events (full availability): 7:30 - 10:00 PM
Signup begins at 9:00am!

Side Events (full availability): 5:00 - 8:00 PM
Signup begins at Noon!

Both Main Events are strictly limited to the first 50 entrants, no exceptions. This is on a strict first-come, first-served basis, and there will be no pre-reservations allowed.

Marian Call to Perform at the JHU Underground Wednesday, June 29!

Singer-Songwriter Marian Call

Live music returns to the JHU Underground Wednesday, June 29 with Marian Call featuring Rachel Zylstra!

Marian Call, a geeky singer-songwriter from Alaska who performs heartfelt and humorous acoustic folk funk with a twist of jazz, has performed in comic stores around the country, and now she will be performing at the JHU Underground at our Manhattan Location as part of her national tour!  There's been a ton of buzz for her, and we are delighted to be hosting Marian Call and Special Guest Rachel Zystra Wednesday, June 29 from 7:00pm to 9:00pm.

The show is FREE (there is a suggested artist donation of $5-$10, which we think will be more than worth it) and perfectly appropriate for all ages!

Anchorage-based singer-songwriter Marian Call does things a little differently. Throughout 2010 she took to the road in her Subaru and played a tour crowdsourced on Twitter, with concerts in all fifty United States -- and most of populated Canada. Her music is “funky acoustic joy jazz” that tastes like cinnamon chipotle vanilla. She has some of the only officially licensed Firefly/Serenity and Battlestar Galactica songs in the 'Verse. She plays typewriter and kazoo and usually travels with Tribbles.

Marian, featuring Rachel Zystra will play at the Jim Hanley's Universe Underground on Wednesday, June 29th at 7pm - for free! Marian's last appearance in New York City was at http://w00tstock.net, hosted by Paul and Storm, the Mythbusters, and Jonathan Coulton. Marian has a web-based international following and the enthusiastic endorsement of @wilw (Wil Wheaton), @feliciaday, @petersagal, @donttrythis (Adam Savage of the Mythbusters), and many more. Call’s shows are unlike any other, and she is most often compared to other artists noted for their distinctiveness or non-traditional approach rather than those with a similar sound — artists such as Joni Mitchell, Regina Spektor, Erin McKeown, and Amanda Palmer are often referenced. Marian Call has released two studio albums and more than a dozen singles. She is currently in Anchorage, Alaska working on her next studio album Something Fierce, and she plans to tour across the U.S., Canada, Europe, and the U.K. in 2011.
